Hemera Margrieta describes this Soul Art piece

This art piece expresses “the grey mass”. When I make the connection with the outside world I find it difficult to stay grounded and not to lose myself in that “grey mass” of having to fit into all those systems, structures and expectations of the outer world. For me, the best way to tackle this pain is to give expression to it in a literal way. So with nine similar plane-faced heads, spraying them grey, I expressed “the grey mass”. Yet while working on this I realized, a shiny sparkling version of grey is silver. So what is the silver lining in this grey cloud? Something shifted when I saw the lens turning back towards myself and I realized “I am my system”. Instead of adapting myself to the outer structures, systems and expectations of society, bend them to my own needs and how I want to do it. It’s the shift from outer-driven to inner-guided.

This art piece is inspired by a workshop I recently guided for one of the classes in the body mapping level in the Soul Art Certification. For this workshop, I used styrofoam heads as the foundation for the Soul Art and afterwards I continued with my own creative process expressing “the grey mass.”

This Soul Art piece in Hemera Margrieta’s words…

This art piece is called “the disembodied embodied” and expresses the process of originating. By first tracing my body posture on a piece of paper, followed by cutting myself out and hanging myself above the tracing, I expressed “dissociation”. Dissociation I consider one of the key features of complex trauma; an issue I struggle with myself. When things get difficult I lose contact with myself and the world around me which leaves me feeling lost, alienated and lunatic. Yet, at the same time, I also experience it as the quality to go beyond the visible reality: seeing “under” what is hidden below the surface and sensing “beyond” what is hidden in the invisible-intangible fields of the unknown. It becomes a problem when I am not able to find the way back to myself and to this world. As if I do not know how to make the translation. Here the creative expression and the process of soul art fly in, bridging the gap. Since I became creative in 2014 and afterwards joined the certification in 2016 art has become my new language of self-communication and self-translation. It has helped me to find new grounds to stand on and to see myself through renewing eyes. All those tags I experienced as “there is something wrong with me” turned out to be actually my core original qualities.

How Hemera Margrieta describes this Soul Art piece

Often in my art, I consciously look for ways to express painful memories, traumatic life experiences or other stuck/blocked feelings in literal and creative ways. It helps me to make the difficult stuff inside me visible and tangible, so I can talk to it. Besides that in this case, by painting my face black or putting on a mask to “face it”, it also becomes doable, so I have an embodied experience of it. This helps me to put things in a different light and see things from a renewed perspective. It’s the same material in a new form: the dark becomes the light and the barrier transforms into a guide.

This Soul Art expression was created in a combination of classes for Level 4 Shaman and Level 1 Bodymapping of the Soul Art Certification.

Why Hemera Margrieta is in Soul Art School

Over the years, the art and the creative process of Soul Art have helped me to ground deep traumatic pain and other disruptive life experiences. Thanks to the creative expression, I have found a new foundation in that bottomless well of trauma and other emotional pain. Art is a reflection of my inner world and helps me to see myself and my life in a new light. It’s finding the silver spark in the pain and black which alchemizes itself into renewal and expansion.

Besides that, thanks to Soul Art School, I have made several new friends from all over the world and had the honour of welcoming three amazing women from our Soul Art community in my home town in the Netherlands. Besides that, quite recently I travelled to Switzerland to pay a return visit to one of my dear Soul Art friends.
