Lesley Dixon describes this Soul Art piece

When we did the Re-Imagining Family ritual in Soul Art School I couldn’t write in the journal at all. I wrote an intention ‘How can I find these places with in me? Then I’ve written ‘Normally I feel inspired. All I want to do is sleep’. And that’s where its all sat until I completed writing and publishing my book on 9th December 2022. Just as I had now made space for myself by completing my book, I felt like I wanted to create space for me to take a deeper breath. This was a big topic for me. A lot happened in the last 12 months, in fact nearly every aspect of my life was now different. So I created bigger lungs in the magnetic sand at Maukatia/Maori Bay. There was 7 of us in total on the sand. Each lung was 44 steps long and 22 steps wide. I use my normal walking steps. I like to draw everything in reflection to include the seen and unseen worlds we live/move in. I introduced the words or belonging, nourishment, interconnectiveness, safety, connection and support to the woman along with the words love and joy that I always create in the energy of. The total length of the creation was 108 steps long and 60 steps wide. there was definitely a sense of belonging, connection and safety felt on the sand

This Soul Art piece in Lesley Dixon’s words…

A continuation of Re-Imaging Family ritual created on Christmas eve. The center piece here was created from a money inquiry I have had about the medallion being given to families who lost men during WW1. It was nick named the ‘Dead mans Penny’. And for me its been about a man losing his life having a cost, a value, worth a penny, where to me there no value you can put on anyone’s life. I had been given a large gold chocolate coin with this symbol on it so it felt like this charge had been transmuted. There was 3 woman and a 8 year old girl creating on Christmas Eve. We sat in circle on the sand for quite a while talking about all of this and I spoke about the Re-Imagining Family words again and asked the woman what words spoke to them. While we were doing this the 8 year old starting drawing beside us. We held space for her creation to come through , noticing she was following the pattern I had drawn. I always welcome children into my creations and I am very protective that their message can come through in its purity. So after we has spoken the words we decided to include in our design were belonging, love, joy and safety. I added to our design a much bigger circle, the initial circle being 55 steps in diameter to include the girls message bringing in inclusiveness. The total design was 104 steps in diameter. It was a very powerful message and a lot of people saw it.

How Lesley Dixon describes this Soul Art piece

James is my friends husband who has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. My friend wrote a message about what a journey its been and how she couldn’t do it without the help of the ‘village of people’ she’s had. I thought it was another perspective of the Re-Imagining Family, how people ask for help, call in the support they need, make the wish and tell people about it so they can be supported in their dreams. So I contacted my friend and asked did James have a message he wanted to share. And she came straight back with this ‘Journey through life with love”. He has a beloved mini car so I decided to draw that for him with his message. I had been a little stuck in filling out this application for the exhibition so I decided to go out and create something purely from letting my heart lead. A friend and her two boys 5 and 7 came to help. I hadn’t drawn a car before so that was a new challenge for me. I made it 33 steps long as the tide was going out so there was plenty of space however the sun was setting soon. My friends boys had rakes too and were drawing to the left of our design and then drew right across the top. That was interesting I thought. When this happens in a group of people it can trigger people big time, about the children ‘ruining it’ or some story. I always let it be what it is as who am I to say what they created was ‘wrong’ if they are feeling the energy and reacting to it? So the interconnectiveness piece came in again, including their message in the creation. So perfect. I also felt the connection piece strongly, with my friend as they don’t live in the same town. They are 3 hours drive away but that’s the beauty of my creations, and of all art I think, it can support people wherever they are in the world. I am so grateful for these three amazing sand creations and the messages I have been able to bring to the sand to expand and give them a safe space for love to land over this special window from Summer solstice here in New Zealand to 27th December 2022. I look forward to the next creation in this inquiry. Its very important I feel.

Why Lesley Dixon is in Soul Art School

Its been my dream for many years to join Soul Art School and it came true in 2022. I entered a competition with my sand art and I said to myself if I won the money prize I would sign up. And I did!! I won $500. I LOVE the activations every month with the journal journey. They really speak to me on so many different levels as I access information from myself that I don’t find in other ways. I often don’t always create art straight away but an inquiry will come up for me to follow. I love Laura and the clear channel she is, her wisdom and her future insight. The visionary aspect really calls to me as I love working with timelines and it makes so much sense to me to access what we do in the future and bring that wisdom here now. My life feels so much fuller being a part of the Soul Art community.
